Yary – Librarian, CLC
Yary is one of the newest members of our field staff at Chey, where she was a student at the project before heading off on a PLF university scholarship to study Accounting. While still at university she worked part-time assisting with our eLearning classes, and since graduating has become our full-time librarian at the newly opened library aimed at middle and high school students.
“I love my new job! I helped with the set-up of the library, including organizing and covering the new books and decorating the library. Now that the library is open, I am responsible for the book inventory and checking in and out books for students to borrow, as well as creating events where the students can come and share about the books they have read, to encourage them to read more. We have group discussions and other activities such as games that the students can enjoy. The students can talk to me if they have any problems with reading, and I can suggest books they might like to try. I can also help the teachers to choose books for them to share with their students.
This new library is very important for older students because before there was only the childrens’ library. Now they can get new knowledge and ideas from the books that are more related to their grades. This helps them to understand more about the world around them, or about problems that are difficult to solve.
I love reading books because we can get a wide range of new ideas, and find out more knowledge. Reading a lot helps us to feel relaxed, reduces stress and is good for mental health. I’m really happy that in this new job, I can share with students about the importance of reading!”

For as little as $10 a month, you could contribute to the ongoing education of our students. $120 goes a long way in Cambodia: that’s 5 village children on the road to education, with access to school and clean drinking water for half a year. Or a million other things, all of which coalesce into the tools needed for life to change for the better!
