Libraries
Reading is among the first stepping stones of learning. And with the majority of our students coming from families with no literacy, it is a fundamental building block that needs to be created. That’s why libraries have become a key pillar in our program offering – as we strive to nurture an early positive interaction with books that paves the way for a successful journey through school.
Accordingly we have poured a lot into this program in recent years, with each PLF location now having its own library; and more than 10,000 book titles that are rotated around these 8 libraries each year.
From storybooks, non-fiction & young adult fiction, to Khmer early grade readers and English language books – students find titles that support their study, but also grow their imaginations.
We also provide eReaders that introduce young students to the wonderful world of tech; and plenty of puzzles and games that stimulate logic and creativity.
Our librarians hold regular Reading Day events, with families welcome to join. As well as deploying incentive initiatives such as Top Reader awards, that are especially appealing to boys’ competitive spirits – helping to maintain males’ engagement with school.
We do a lot to engage students with books because we believe that when kids read for pleasure as much as for study, they will go far.
