Media Instructor Sotheara Ly has chosen two of her graduates from the Urban Lab to attend accounting classes and study Quickbooks so that next school year, PLF can offer courses in Quickbooks with basic accounting to our urban students.
Both students, Thai Sreynith and Dieb Tevy, have begun classes at The Institute of Professional Accounting and are in module I, Accounting Basics, which they will study for three months. Next term, they will learn how to use the software and begin curriculum development with teacher Sotheara.
After graduating so many students from the urban lab with certificates in Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint, we began to ask what other courses we could offer that would be useful to students out looking for work. A basic accounting course seemed like a good idea regardless, as most high school students do not learn about basic budgeting and money management in school. Armed with Quickbook skills and Microsoft Office Suite, many urban students will be able to find entry level administrative work and broaden their employment options.
Sreynith is in grade 12 at Angkor High School and Tevy is in grade 11. Both of them are students in the PLF Scholarship program and are stars of the Urban Computer Class. Recently, Tevy helped Sotheara do some network administration at Tchey School.
We are very proud of these two young women who manage to juggle their full workload at public school, go to English every day and now study this course at IPA. We are impressed with their leadership in rolling the program out.
