At the end of November, the Ponheary Ly Foundation, with help from supporters, partners and families, have awarded twenty scholarships for our most deserving and motivated students to finish high school.

Each year the PLF goes through an assessment process to award high school scholarships.  Academic results are screened and those with a good level of grades and attendance are interviewed by PLF staff. The last step is an assessment of the families ability to support this herculean effort.Interviews

For the first time ever, the most academically gifted students were all girls!

PLF has a strong presence in Srayang, Preah Vihear Province because of our Srayang dormitory and the high school students we support there. Because of these relationships, for the first time ever, PLF has been approached by parents from this area presenting their desire to send their children into Siem Reap to attend Angkor High School.

It’s great to see these families from the countryside recognising the importance of a higher level of education and using their financial ability to pay for all school associated costs.  PLF is providing assistance through the Angkor High School dormitory that we support in Siem Reap.  For these families children it means the chance for their children to complete high school, since in Srayang Commune there is no upper secondary school.  Through PLF they receive the support of a safe, secure environment with healthy meals and the chance to concentrate on their studies.

When families and PLF are able to collaborate is creates a much bigger success story.  It means more students, whose parents are unable to financially support their education, also have the chance at a secondary education and start goal kicking towards a more successful future.
