PLF GRADUATES
HALL OF FAME!
SEN – Medicine
Sen is the first PLF student to graduate with a bachelor of medicine, and is now working as a GP in Svay Leu, Siem Reap province!
Sen is, quite literally, the poster child of what’s possible, and has beaten monumental odds to arrive at this day. He first came into our program at Chey school, having moved locations through his early childhood and lost his parents. Orphaned, living alone with siblings and already aged 11 by the time he entered Grade 3, he was always determined to study:
Sen is, quite literally, the poster child of what’s possible, and has beaten monumental odds to arrive at this day. He first came into our program at Chey school, having moved locations through his early childhood and lost his parents. Orphaned, living alone with siblings and already aged 11 by the time he entered Grade 3, he was always determined to study:
“I remember as a child standing behind thousands of students at Chey Primary School. I was one of those students. I was cold when I saw others had parent to take care, and felt sad when I did not have enough food and equipment for my study. But my future changed when I got some support from PLF, that was the most beautiful gift of my life. Moreover, I had many opportunities to gain experience such as computer labs, English classes, and media classes, it was unforgettable with my first XO laptop and made videos in my community with a group of young film producers.
Becoming a doctor was a dream that I imagine since I was a child. I remember, I had a health problem when I was small kid, where my family worked as farmers in the deep forest. One day, I got a serious fever 40.2C with seizure. My father took me to the health center and they said they cannot help me and transfer to another hospital, but my father did not have enough money and the hospital was so far. Then he decided to take me to my uncle’s house. My uncle was an old nurse in the Khmer Rouge genocide. He treated me by injection serum and gave me some analgesic drugs. I am proud of my uncle for rescuing my life, and I promised myself I would become a doctor, as I can treat myself and my family.
Becoming a doctor is challenging and my first year in medical school was very hard to learn, but I have never given up, I always get up in the morning, working late night at the hospital, spending a lot of time studying with friends then very exhausted for the next day.
My journey was long and difficult. But I can achieve my dream and make it come true. Start from today and forever, I can do good for my country and my family with dignity. I can help my community, provide good health service and quality of life for my people.
If I did not have support from the PLF, I think my life would never change until today. When I look back to my past, I was just a poor young boy, a dead soul in poverty, starvation and homelessness. I felt hungry and I look like skinny when my brain not working properly and unknowledgeable.

There are many more students just like Sen with great academic promise for higher education, but lacking the financial ability to get there.
Donating to our scholarship fund ensures they can access college, and go on to employment opportunities that change the trajectory of not only their lives, but their families’ and communities’ too.
Make their dreams come true – and contribute to a brighter and more equitable Cambodia!
