PHANITH – Finance & Banking

My dad told me, “If you don’t want to get tired of farming, start studying.” This inspirational quote and support from PLF got me where I am today.

When I was young, my family wasn’t very well-off. Since my parents were farmers, they struggled to afford our education, with five children in the family. I became a PLF student in Grade 1, and this helped greatly – without that support, studying would have been very difficult.

Still, my educational journey faced several obstacles, particularly the lack of funds for daily expenses. Because we were struggling financially, I had to be very frugal with my spending. This challenge is exactly what motivated me to study hard, so that I could gain the knowledge needed to support both myself and my family.

With a PLF scholarship, I was able to major in Finance and Banking, a field I believe offers many career opportunities. Currently, I am working in the accounting department for an international school in Siem Reap.

Without education, I wouldn’t have the good job I have today. It has changed so much – from my general knowledge and communication skills to my financial situation and beyond. I have gained professional experience and a good income, which allows me to contribute a portion of my salary to my family to help with daily expenses. This job has made a noticeable difference for us all.

I have previously volunteered to share my experiences in PLF’s mentorship program. I enjoy sharing my personal journey and the skills I’ve learned because many children in the next generation face the same hardships I once did. Furthermore, I believe many students finishing Grade 12 are unsure about which major to choose. By sharing my story, I hope to motivate them to study hard and help guide them toward a career path they truly love.

Education is incredibly important to me. I want to tell all families to please send your children to school, because education is the only thing that can change our lives and make our future better.

There are many more students just like Phanith with great academic promise for higher education, but lacking the financial ability to get there.

Donating to our scholarship fund ensures they can access college, and go on to employment opportunities that change the trajectory of not only their lives, but their families’ and communities’ too.

Make their dreams come true – and contribute to a brighter and more equitable Cambodia!
