PLF University Scholar Romdul’s story of finding her way from the village to the big city.

This is my second time visiting Cambodia as a volunteer for the Ponheary Ly Foundation. My parents and my older siblings have been coming for years, but now it was my turn to come!

The classroom desks were filled with students, eager to recite the alphabet and practice their English. Outside, inquisitive little ones lined the windowsills to get a glimpse of the class lessons. I remember their immense smiles, bowing heads and folded hands. Their gratitude—for an afternoon snack, bright red Frisbees and fresh jump ropes—touched me. Together, we played games in the dusty school yard, laughing and howling as the students attempted to jump rope for the first time. Looking around at the students, many the same age as me, I began to recognize the great privilege I had.
From 1975-1979 was the Pol Pot regime and at that time Cambodia was the river of blood. Khmer Rouge (Pol Pot soldiers) and many armies took over Cambodia as a dictatorship during the time that sectors were declining, such as: health sector, industry sector, economic sector and especially the education sector. The Khmer rouge whose leader was Mr. Pol Pot destroyed such as:
I was really delighted and interested in my trip to Preah Vihear. First of all, I had a lot of fun during the time I was on my bus. All the buses left Siem Reap province at 6:00am.
Each family in society has cooking methods that differ from each other. Each family has a different type of food that they like and that tastes different from each other. Moreover, the way things are cook are not the same. In my family my favourite food they like to eat, is boiled winter melon.
Many humans are born everyday always into residential housing for individuals and families. Each house can be large or small depending on the family. And each house always has bedrooms and a kitchen connected. With some large houses the kitchen is built separately from the main house. Each kitchen has clean sanitation depending on how clean the members of the family are.
Nature such as plants and flowers are varied and usually always smell beautiful . The pink Lotus flower plants grow out of the smelly brown mud and water, but they grow beautifully pink and smell beautiful.
In this world we have a variety of crops for cultivation and sale in the markets and that can be used daily. There is a crop we need a lot of, which is chilli.
Nowadays, in our society we have a lot of people some are good and some are bad. At school we also have good students and bad students. But some of them are good students because they take care about their country, families, teachers, parents and old people.
