Reflections of a PLF Intern

The classroom desks were filled with students, eager to recite the alphabet and practice their English. Outside, inquisitive little ones lined the windowsills to get a glimpse of the class lessons. I remember their immense smiles, bowing heads and folded hands. Their gratitude—for an afternoon snack, bright red Frisbees and fresh jump ropes—touched me. Together, we played games in the dusty school yard, laughing and howling as the students attempted to jump rope for the first time. Looking around at the students, many the same age as me, I began to recognize the great privilege I had.

PLF Girls Rise to Share Their Stories Through Film

Every Sunday, eight teenage girls cycle from their urban dormitory to the PLF office to participate in PLF’s three-part media program that incorporates blogging, photography, and videography to help them learn to tell their stories and give them the tools with which to share them.  Catered specifically upper high school girls, this unique program intends to shed light on the universal challenges that young women face as well as capture the individual narratives of its participants.

Knar Science Club Wraps up Study of Biomes

Can you name all of the continents that have a tundra biome? Ask a student in the sixth grade Science Club at Knar school and they will readily tell you the answer, especially if there is a prize at stake. On Friday the PLF crew visited Knar Primary School to put on a special scavenger hunt, to celebrate the conclusion of their three month long investigation into the world’s habitats. Sprinting from one station to the next, the students quizzed their knowledge on the world’s biomes, adaptation, and the food chain.

Saveth – PLF's Jack-Of-Many-Trades

PLF’s introduction to Saveth was in his role as a tuk-tuk driver for Seven Candles Guest House.  Now he’s responsible for our Media, Lego and Google Apps Programs.  There are also a myriad of other guises that self-named “Cambodia’s Mr James Bond” puts on for PLF such as Mr Fix-It and Mr Build-It, to name a few.
