Promoting access to quality education for children and youth across Northern Cambodia.
Throughout the week we have been sharing our favorite moments from the Srayang Mentorship field trip to Siem Reap; inspiring advice from students, curious eyes and minds touring the high school and the refrigerators. The smallest details are so important and often the easiest to share in a few concise words. But there is one grander idea that struck a note with all of us this past month, an idea that merits a moment’s reflection.
This school year seven graduates from the Srayang Dormitory moved to the Siem Reap dormitories to begin studying in High School. A major first for all of us; the first time every graduate from Srayang continued on to Grade 10 and the first time any of those students had made such a giant leap from their villages. It was our greatest experiment ever, and so far it has paid off.
When Vannak was young her father told her, “I know that you really wanted to go back to school, but we are far, so we can not. Maybe in the next life you will be born in the town.”
“We will educate our children. We will do it one by one, step by step.” -Ponheary Ly
